JAMMU, June 24: BJP executive member, Raman Suri has expressed concerns over the persistent non-availability of essential medicines for Haemophilia patients in Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals across J&K.
Highlighting the plight of approximately 800 registered Haemophilia patients in Jammu and Srinagar, Suri emphasized that the exorbitant cost of these medicines makes them unaffordable for most, leaving the patients in distress and at risk.
“Lack of medicines for Haemophilia treatment is a grave issue that continues to haunt patients in J&K,” he said adding, “These patients, already burdened by a lifelong condition, are forced to endure immense hardship due to the unavailability of critical drugs and many have to travel hundreds of kms to hospitals in the capital, as district hospitals lack both medicines and basic information about Haemophilia care.”
The BJP leader pointed out that J&K Medical Supply Corporation, responsible for procuring these medicines, is well aware of the patients’ struggles, yet shortages persist.
He demanded Haemophilia care centres in districts like Rajouri, Doda and Kathua, which have not been operationalized due to lack of commitment from the authorities.
Suri urged the authorities to take immediate action to ensure a regular supply of Haemophilia medicines and to make them accessible at district hospitals.
