Surana & Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court North Round 2025-26 begins at JU

JAMMU, Oct 31: The Department of Law, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Chennai, today inaugurated the North Round of the Surana & Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition 2025-26 at the Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
As per a statement, teams from 19 universities across North India, including National Law Universities, Central and State Universities, are participating in the three-day event.
The competition began with registration, orientation, and the draw of lots at the Department of Law.
Former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Justice Tashi Rabstan, who is also an alumnus of the University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Justice Rabstan appreciated the University and the Department of Law for organizing the competition in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys.
He stressed that moot court competitions play a crucial role in linking academic learning with real courtroom experience and urged students to focus on case facts, relevant legal provisions, and authoritative judgments.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, the Guest of Honour, congratulated Justice Rabstan on his achievement and praised the Department of Law for its academic leadership.
He said that moot court competitions are vital for developing advocacy, drafting, and argumentation skills among law students.
Special Guest Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies, said it was inspiring to see young law students embodying the spirit of justice.
She noted that such competitions not only test knowledge but also build confidence, discipline, and ethical clarity among students.
Prof J P Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, highlighted the importance of such platforms in nurturing legal reasoning and confidence.
Earlier, Prof Manju Jamwal, Head and Dean, Faculty of Law, welcomed the guests and participants, emphasizing the importance of trial advocacy as a key component of legal education. The vote of thanks was presented by Prof Satinder Kumar.
A cultural performance by law students marked the ceremony, followed by the exchange of memorials. The competition rounds will continue till November 2, featuring preliminary to final rounds.
