JAMMU, Sept 9: Sunrise- Marine Consultancy, organized a career counseling programme/seminar in Merchant Navy (M-Navy) for the young generation of the State here today.
The programme aimed at providing awareness, guidance and knowledge to the young boys and girls and also to their parents from this State about the career in Merchant Navy. Lt Commander (Retd) Indian Navy, Jagbir Singh who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave some inputs about the career in Merchant Navy and said that due to good package many youth from northern India are now joining this field. He said there was lot of scope of growth in this field. Mr Singh said there was no Marine College in J&K and the awareness about it is very less here.
Rajesh Sharma, CEO of the Sunrise Consultancy, said the group was in career counseling for the last nearly six years and giving guidance and counseling to the young girls and boys from this State. He said there was no Marine College in J&K, Himachal, Punjab or even in Chandigarh which is approved by DG Shipping, Govt of India. J&K students have to move out to get education in this field.
Manpreet Kour, SEO of Sunrise said the group felicitated three young girls from this State who joined Merchant Navy as Deck Cadet in Shipping Corporation of India recently. She said being a girl, she would suggest to many other girls of this region to join this field in spite of going to engineering, BSc-IT, BBA, MBA etc. She said a youth with 60 % marks in 12th ( Min 55 % in Eng), having PCM subjects, can join this field. First he/ she has to under go Medical test, followed by one year training programme. Thereafter, he/ she can join any ship to get at least 18 months training onboard. After getting training one can get stipend up to Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 during 18 months of sea experience and passing our an examination one may become 2nd officer having salary anything between Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh per month. There is great job opportunity in this field for youth of this region, she added.
