JAMMU, Dec 19: Minister of State for Transport, Revenue and Youth Services & Sports, Sunil Kumar Sharma today inaugurated Under-17 and Under-19 Boys Wushu tournament, as a part of 63rd National School Games at BSF ground Paloura, here.
The event is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) in which a total of 15 teams from across the country are participating.
On the occasion, Additional Secretary YSS, Rajnish Kumar, Director YSS, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Joint Director YSS, Madan Lal, members from SGFI and other senior officers of the Sports department were present.
Interacting with the players, the Minister wished the teams’ great success in the tournament and advised them to play in the true spirit of a sportsperson which is pre-requisite for success of any player. He said that sports play an important role in shaping the overall personality development of players making them a responsible citizen.
The Minister exhorted upon the officers of the department to perform their duty with utmost care and concern to develop the sports skills of sportspersons of the state to the optimum so that they could represent their native land with success and pride. He asked them to plan necessary training for the youth in the fields of their talent on regular basis so that they are equipped fully with ability and aptitude to compete at the high-profile sports events within and outside the country.
Director YSS lauded the efforts of SGFI for providing full support to the department for making the event successful.
On the occasion, students from various schools enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing cultural performances.
