JAMMU, Oct 17: Former Minister and senior BJP leader, Sukhnandan Choudhary on Thursday led a protest demonstration in here accusing the administration of ignoring the plight of common people and failing on key developmental and public welfare fronts.
Choudhary, addressing the gathering, said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are “fed up with the Government’s inaction and empty promises.” He demanded that the Government immediately resolve the long-pending issues of farmers, poor road infrastructure, and compensation for flood-hit farmers.
Choudhary alleged that fertilizer dealers are forcing farmers to purchase unnecessary products along with essential fertilizers like DAP, Urea, and Potash, calling it a form of blackmail.
“Dealers are asking farmers to buy pesticides, micronutrients, and other useless items along with fertilizers. If they refuse, they are denied the fertilizer. This is nothing short of exploitation,” he said.
“Why should a farmer, who is already struggling, be made to buy what he doesn’t need just to get a bag of fertilizer?”
Choudhary said, “Our people are suffering. The farmers are crying for fertilizers, for irrigation, for roads to take their produce to the markets – and this Government is sleeping. Those who sit in power must remember that the public’s patience is not endless. We want accountability from Omar Government, we want justice.”
He further stated that despite repeated appeals to the administration, basic civic issues like electricity, clean drinking water, and repair of rural roads remain unresolved.
During the protest, Choudhary demanded immediate release of relief and compensation for flood-affected and displaced families, ensuring adequate supply of fertilizers, urea, and seeds for the ongoing sowing season, repair and maintenance of village roads and irrigation canals neglected for years, transparent and time-bound implementation of rural development projects.
A large number of BJP workers, farmers, and local residents joined the protest, shouting slogans against the Omar Government and holding banners demanding justice.
Choudhary warned that if the Government failed to act, the protest would spread to other districts:
Despite the mounting criticism, there has been no official response from the Omar Government, he added.
