VIJAYPUR, Apr 3: The Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar and Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash, along with a team of officers, today, visited Vijaypur and took stock of the damages caused to protection bunds of river Basanter at Kamore in last year’s floods and the crops by recent rains.
The Ministers were informed that 700 meter new bund costing Rs. 4.40 crore would be constructed at the same place while the tenders for the work stand already floated. It was given out that a project of Rs. 49.82 crore, covering all protection works, has also been forwarded to the Government of India for approval and allocation of funds.
Mr Sukhnandan instructed authorities of Irrigation and Flood Control Department to construct a deep drain at Tarapur so that the water accumulating in the area could be drained out for the safety of the people. He also asked them to start stud and crate work in affected areas of the Vijaypur constituency.
While taking stock of the damage caused to the crops by the recent torrential rains in the area, the Minister assured the people that the damage would be got assessed immediately after the weather condition improves. He said Agriculture Department has already constituted teams for assessing the damage, adding that a final decision of relief would be taken after receiving the report.
Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Chief Engineer PHE and other field officers were also accompanied the Ministers.
