JAMMU, Apr 11: Up in arms against alleged remarks by a BJP MLA against the community, Gujjar-Bakerwal students held a strong protest near Jammu University campus, here today.
Shouting slogans and carrying placards, the protesting students sought unconditional apology from the Gujjar-Bakerwal community for his alleged remarks. They also torched an effigy of the BJP MLA.
Talking to media persons, the protesting students alleged that the said BJP MLA had given a statement in which he accused the Gujjar-Bakerwal community of smuggling drugs and acting as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the terror network in Jammu and Kashmir.
They demanded action against the MLA for his alleged remarks and warned more vigorous protests by the community students in case no unconditional apology is tendered by the BJP leader.
“Gujjar-Bakerwal community will not spare any unwanted comment against them and we are peace loving community which has done a lot for J&K as well as the country,” they said.
The protesting students dispersed after torching an effigy of the BJP MLA amidst raising of slogans.
Earlier, a number of Gujjar-Bakerwal students assembled at Jammu University campus and marched towards the main gate in the form of procession. Shouting slogans and carrying placards, they re-assembled in front of JU main gate and held demonstration.
