JAMMU, Aug 21: Two students faced harassment at the hands of a private bus operator in Jammu after being forcibly de-boarded from a vehicle despite paying for AC travel.
According to reports, the students had boarded an AC bus of Anjum Tour and Travel (JK12C-8113) for Poonch, paying Rs 500 each.
However, when they asked the driver to switch on the air conditioning, he allegedly refused.
Instead of addressing their request, the driver threw out their luggage and forced them to get down near Paloura.
Of the Rs 1,000 paid, only Rs 800 was refunded, leaving the students stranded.
The incident has triggered strong public criticism, with questions being raised over the functioning of the Traffic Police, which is accused of failing to regulate private bus operators.
Passengers alleged that operators often overcharge and deny promised services, while students and other vulnerable commuters are subjected to harassment.
They demanded strict action against the bus operator involved in the incident and called for tighter checks on passenger vehicles to prevent such exploitation in the future.
