JAMMU, May 4: Under the joint auspices of the Hindi Sahitya Mandal and Viraj Kala Kendra, a multilingual story symposium was organized, here today .
This story symposium was dedicated to the memory of late Manoj Sharma, former literary secretary of the Mandal, a distinguished poet and cultural activist, who passed away unexpectedly in Jalandhar on 29 April.
The multilingual symposium was chaired by senior Hindi litterateur Professor Rajkumar. Well-known storytellers from Jammu—Khalid Hussain, Professor Kiran Bakshi, Maharaj Krishna Santoshi, Baljeet Raina, Santosh Sangra and Rajneesh Gupta—presented their stories in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Dogri.
In his presidential address, Professor Rajkumar commended the Mandal for organizing such a multilingual event and said that such symposia reflect the social trends emerging in the literature of all regional languages, thereby enriching literary discourse for the welfare of humanity as a whole.
At the beginning of the event, Dr Chanchal Dogra, President of the Mandal, recalled the contributions and time of the late Manoj in the Mandal and offered heartfelt tribute on behalf of all members and the attending community. She also elaborated on the purpose and intent behind the symposium.
At the conclusion of the program, the Mandal’s Publicity Secretary Jang Singh Varman expressed gratitude to all present writers and listeners.
The event was smoothly conducted by the Mandal’s vice president Sanjeev Bhasin and general secretary Manto Dutta Sharma.
Among the attendees were Chander Mohan Sharma, Shyam Juneja, Sheikh Mohammad Kalyan, Naseeb Singh Manhas, and Manjeet Singh Kamra.
Prior to the symposium, a condolence resolution was passed, highlighting the contribution of Manoj Sharma to the Hindi literary and cultural landscape of Jammu.
