Stop smuggling of wood, felling of trees: KKS

KATHUA, Apr 1: The Kissan Kalyan Samiti (KKS) Kathua has expressed grave concern over illegal felling of trees in Jasrota area of the district by mafia.
In a statement issued here, today Samiti president, Jaidev Singh said the issue was brought in the notice of higher ups in Government but the unabated smuggling of wood from the area continues by illegally felling the trees in this belt from forest and Shamilat land which is going to affect the ecology of the area and lead to environmental degradation.
He urged the Government to take strict action against the mafia who are cutting trees unabated. Singh said the frequent floods in Monsoon is the main cause of denuding the forest areas and the environmentalists should pay an attention to this growing trend to protect the ecology and maintain environmental balance.
