Steps afoot to improve basic amenities: Bhalla

JAMMU, Sept 29: Asserting that the development of every nook and corner of the State was priority of the Coalition Government, the Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation  Raman Bhalla, today said that with this objective a series of States and Centrally Sponsored Schemes have been launched to improve basic facilities like education, healthcare, power and water supply.
The Minister said this while addressing a public meeting at Kacha Tallab Shahabad Colony near Bagh-e- Bahu,   here today.
Listing various development schemes, the Minister said that provision for safe drinking water, better sewerage drainage system, roads, quality healthcare, education and improved power scenario are receiving focused attention of the State and Central Governments. He said a multi-level monitoring system has been put in place to oversee the implementation of the schemes to ensure discernible impact on the ground.
Mr. Bhalla said that all this has become possible with liberal funding being provided by the UPA Government led by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. He said   the development activities taken up at massive scale have greatly helped in raising the socio-economic condition of the people of the State.
The residents of Gorkha Nagar and Kacha Tallab raised several demands before the Minister related to improvement of power and water supply and up-gradation of lanes and drains.
The Minister assured early redressal of genuine demands and instructed the concerned officers to do the needful.
At Kacha Tallab, the Minister inaugurated construction work on lanes and drains and protection wall to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 8 lakh.
The Minister also inspected the progress of work on the installation of interlock tiles at Gorkha Nagar to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.5 lakh.
Laying stress on maintaining quality standards, the Minister asked the senior functionaries to conduct regular inspections of the under execution works ensure use of quality material.
Later, the Minister visited Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital and inspected the up-gradation and repair works of different wards.
Interacting with the patients, he inquired about the medicare facilities being provided to them.
