Srinagar, May 9: In response to the directions of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, various investigation agencies investigating the spurious drug scam in the State have filed their status reports before the High Court today.
These agencies filed their status reports to the division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magray here this afternoon.
The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Department of Health and Medical Education, Drug Controller Jammu and Kashmir and Drug Controller General of India who are separately investigating the spurious drug scam filed their status reports.
The court last month asked these investigating agencies to file the status report and had asked the Inspector General of Police and Chief Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir State to monitor the Crime Branch and Departmental investigations respectively.
The Court has also directed the Advocate Vikas Sharma representing the former Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma to file response on behalf of the former Health Minister by or before May 20.
The Division Bench of the High Court also allowed the application of Kashmir Bar Association seeking intervention in the spurious drug scam. The next day of the hearing is 4th week of May.
The court directions came in response to a PIL filed by Dr Nisarul Hassan and Shafat Rasool seeking directions from the High Court to constitute a committee of experts to look into the scam.
The PIL also sought directions from the court seeking reasons from the Government for not testing the supplied drugs in a testing laboratory. It also sought directions for setting up of a testing laboratory, loss to the State exchequer and fixation of liability on the persons involved in the scam and impartial probe.
Last week a special TADA court in Srinagar issued non-bailable arrest warrant against 15 suppliers and manufacturers of a spurious drug Maxamizine-625 to Government hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir.
