LONDON, Apr 10 : UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has voiced strong frustration with Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, holding their actions responsible for a sharp rise in oil and gas prices in the United Kingdom amid ongoing global conflicts.
Linking the surge to the Russia-Ukraine war and the recent tensions involving Iran, Starmer said geopolitical instability triggered by the two leaders had left British households and businesses vulnerable to volatile energy costs, UK media reported.
Speaking from Bahrain, where he met Gulf leaders including Mohammed bin Salman and Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Starmer adopted a cautious stance on the West Asia ceasefire, particularly regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“There will be an element of wait and see. Let’s see what happens in two, three, four days , that will be the real test. It’s not what people say on Day One or Day Two,” BBC quoted him as saying.
The Prime Minister underscored that the recent crises had exposed a critical vulnerability in the UK’s energy framework, arguing that reliance on global supply chains had left the country exposed to sudden shocks, with fuel prices soaring as a result.
“I’m fed up with the fact that families and businesses across the country see their energy bills go up and down because of the actions of Putin or Trump across the world,” he said, blaming both leaders for undermining Britain’s energy security.(UNI)
