JAMMU, July 7: Col SS Pathania, president of Sainik Samaj Party (SSP) today urged the Union Government and Lieutenant Governor to utilize the potential of veterans to effectively counter the looming of 3rd wave of COVID-19.
“A clue must be taken from the National Guard, a force of reservists from armed force who performed phenomenally in winning the battle against Corona,” Pathania said.
In our country Armed Force personnel also come under the category of reservist and post retirement of these personnel, they can be called back for duties in case of national emergency or during war, he said and adding that the optimal use must be made of such a vast pool of highly trained dedicated and competent veterans to the corona- an invisible enemy.
He further said that a comprehensive policy on utilization of veterans against corona needs to be worked out by Central Government as well as States’ Governments. “Terms and conditions including remuneration too must be taken into consideration while formulation of the policy,” he said.
“We should take lesson from the Punjab Govt’s initiative of formulation of “Guardian of Governance’ in which employment of veterans has been done. Now they work as eyes and ears of the Govt to enhance the efficiency of governance and truthful reporting from ground level,” Col Pathania said.
He urged the Lieutenant Governor to look into the matter and replicate the same model in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
