JAMMU, Nov 3: Open heart surgery has been re-started in Super Specialty Hospital (SSH), Jammu from today with the commissioning of new Heart Lung Machine.
The surgery was performed on a patient belonging to Akhnoor, who was a case of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). The surgery was conducted by the team from CTVS Department led by Dr Noor Ali, HoD, CTVS, Dr IA Mir, Dr Arvind Kohli, Dr Mohit Arora, Dr Vivek Gandotra and the cardiac Anaesthesia team including Dr Poojja Vimesh, Dr Shruty and Dr Rasmeet.
This is a step forward in compliance to the directions passed by Bali Bhagat, Minister for Health and Medical Education Department to provide best possible healthcare facilities in the SSH so that the patients may not have to be referred outside the State.
Dr Zahid Gillani, Principal, GMC Jammu directed Dr Manoj Chalotra, Medical Superint-endent, SSH to provide all logistic support for smooth conduct of surgery. The hospital administration swung into action and made available all accessories required for the surgery.
This facility was available in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu longtime back, but due to obsolete model of Health Lung Machine, the procedures were halted.
Now a new state-of-art Heart Lung Machine has been procured through HLL and the surgeries have been re-started at SSH.
With the start of open heart procedures in the SSH Jammu, the patients requiring open heart surgery can now be operated upon in the SSH otherwise they had to visit specialized centres, which was very difficult for the poor patients as the open heart surgery procedures are very expensive in private institution.
