JAMMU, June 15: Shiv Sena and Dogra Front (SSDF) took out a procession in the main parts of Jammu City protesting against the mismanagement of traffic and looting of Mata Vaishno Devi and Amar Nath Yatra pilgrims.
Under the leadership of president, Ashok Gupta, hundreds of SSDF workers took part in the procession to express their anger towards mismanagement of traffic and looting of pilgrims.
Addressing the protestants, Gupta said, “About 56 traffic check-points have been established to regulate the traffic in view of ongoing season of Amar Nath Yatra and Maa Vaishno Devi Yatra, but the traffic policemen are busy to fill their pockets instead of controlling the traffic. Except few challans they prefer cash to fill in their pockets. No authority of the Government is checking their loot as they seem to have been freed to fill their coffers”.
“Yatris are being harassed on the name of checking and this harassment starts from Lakhanpur and continues within the State having special power under Section 370”, he added.
Noting that such attitude with the countrymen visiting the State will leave bad impression on the them, he demanded that two or three check-points be fixed with Police Officers above the rank of SSP on duty, to stop the harassment immediately.
Later, Gupta wrote a telegram to the Transport Commissioner complaining him about Traffic Officers, most of whom are collecting money from drivers of public transport on monthly basis and nobody is in the department to take action against those corrupt officers.
