Srinagar residents facing drinking water woes

Srinagar, Aug 24: The residents living in Soura and adjoining areas are complaining about the low pressure of the water supply due to which they are facing a number of hardships.
They said that they used to receive a high-pressure water supply and did not require using the water pumps to get the effective supply, however, for the last 2 years, the supply has been affected.
“For the last more than 2 years, the residents living in Soura, Nowshera, Bolachi Pora, Zoonimar, Eidgah even those living towards Seki Dafar, are facing erratic water supply coupled with the low-pressure water supply due to which we are facing multiple hardships,” the locals said.
The residents said that they were never used to face issues concerning the water supply; however, for the last some time, they are facing a difficult situation as the supply of the water has been remaining affected.
As per residents, there were some issues with the Malshahi Bagh canal and the same was being repaired, however, the present status of the repairs is not known.
“Earlier, the administration had stated that the repairs would be completed soon but then they failed to meet several deadlines; it is since then that we are facing immense hardships,” the locals said.
The concerned officials told Excelsior that the work at the Malshahi Bagh canal has been completed and the matter of people getting low-pressure water supply will be looked into.
“We were not aware of the issue being faced by the residents of these areas, but, we will move the field staff to rectify faults if any,” AEE, PHE Muhammad Yousuf Naikoo said.
