Srinagar records season’s lowest temp at -4.5°C

SRINAGAR, Nov 28: The cold wave continues to tighten its grip across Kashmir, with temperatures plunging well below freezing across the region and Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season at -4.5°C.
According to the Meteorological (MeT) Department, Srinagar’s minimum temperature stood at -4.5°C, 4.1°C below normal, while the maximum settled at 12.1°C, slightly below normal. Humidity levels oscillated between 93% and 73% throughout the day, and no rainfall was recorded.

Pahalgam was the coldest among the tourist resorts, registering -5.5°C (2.7°C below normal) with a maximum of 13.0°C. Kupwara recorded -4.8°C, 3.8°C below normal, and 14.1°C as the maximum. Qazigund reported -4.4°C and 14.4°C, while Kokernag logged -1.8°C and 13.2°C. In the higher reaches, Gulmarg stood at -1.4°C and a maximum of 6.9°C, remaining dry through the day.

The cold spell extended into the Jammu division. Banihal registered -1.5°C, 3.9°C below normal, with the maximum reaching 18.8°C. Bhaderwah followed at -0.5°C and 17.5°C. Batote recorded 3.6°C, 1.6°C below normal, and 18.7°C as the maximum. Temperatures rose further south: Katra stood at 8.2°C and 21.7°C, while Jammu city remained the warmest with a minimum of 9.4°C (1.2°C below normal) and a high of 24.6°C.
In Ladakh, cold conditions turned even more severe. Karu in Leh recorded the lowest temperature at -10.6°C, followed by -9.6°C in Leh, -8.6°C in Kargil and -8.3°C in Nubra, signalling an early intensification of winter in the high-altitude region.
The MeT office has forecast mainly dry conditions across Jammu and Kashmir until 1 December, with no significant changes expected in the temperature pattern.
