Speaking with reporters here, Labroo said the plan will cover short-term, mid-term, and long-term measures. “A few days ago, we held a meeting with all stakeholders, including line departments of Srinagar, to decide practical steps to decongest the city,” he added.
The Deputy Commissioner also inspected ongoing infrastructure projects in the city’s old downtown area, commonly known as Sher Khas, focusing on Eidgah and Khaniyar tehsils. “Work on the new Eidgah tehsil office has started, and the Khaniyar tehsil office is in its final stages. Substantial progress has been made since our last visit,” Labroo said. He added that the SDM East office is also under construction to ensure residents can access services closer to their jurisdiction.
Highlighting the need for proper public infrastructure, he said, “Wherever there is high public footfall, such as revenue buildings and health institutions, work must be completed to provide proper services. For instance, an additional block at LD Hospital and medical infrastructure in Bemina are underway, along with bio-segregation facilities at JLNM Hospital.”
Labroo emphasized coordinated efforts among all line departments, including traffic police, revenue, and R&B, SMC, LCMA, and SDA. “Decongesting traffic in a city like Srinagar requires practical action, not just vision. All departments must work together proactively to ensure timely completion of projects,” he said.
