Sri Sri discusses Ayodhya issue with Firangi Mahali

LUCKNOW: After a day-long marathon session of meetings with various stakeholders to explore ways to sort out the Ramjanmabhumi tussle, spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankar met Sunni cleric and Imam of Aishbagh Eidgah Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali here on Friday morning.
Though the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had cold-shouldered Sri Sri, Maulana Khalid Rashid, who is executive member of the Board, met the spiritual guru in the capacity of imam at Aishbagh Eidgah.
The one-on-one meeting lasted for about 35 minutes. While talking to reporters, Maulana Khalid Rashid stated that his meeting with Sri Sri was strictly in the capacity of imam and shahar quazi, and not as member of AIMPLB. He said, “I have informed the spiritual guru that the matter is in the court and we are waiting for its verdict, but any effort to find a mutual consensus on this issue is a welcome approach.
There is need for communal harmony and such meetings will help in that way.” Commenting on the formula of mutual agreement on the Ayodhya issue, the maulana said, “AIMPLB has not been given any proposal, but if any one puts forth a proposal, the board will consider it.”
Addressing the media here this morning, Sri Sri said, “We all respect our courts but they cannot bring our hearts together.” “We both agree that we have to build bridges. We have to create the atmosphere of togetherness,” he said after meeting the Sunni leader.
“We want communal harmony and we will continue our efforts in that direction. There is no immediate solution in my mind, but there is a need for both sides to sit at dialogue table to sort out the issues,” the spiritual guru stated. (AGENCIES)
