KATRA, Mar 26: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) had the privilege of hosting Dr Medha de Alwis, a distinguished scholar and post-doctoral researcher from Sri Lanka, known globally for her multifaceted contributions as a legal counsel, journalist, trainer, and public speaker.
During her visit, Dr de Alwis actively engaged in a series of interactive sessions with faculty members, research scholars, and students across multiple departments. These sessions were held at the Mechanical Engineering Department, the School of Architecture and Landscape Design, and included vibrant discussions with scholars and students on interdisciplinary learning, global exposure, and professional excellence.
The visit was coordinated by the Office of International and Alumni Affairs, SMVDU. Vice Chancellor, Prof Pragati Kumar, felicitated Dr de Alwis and held a detailed discussion on potential areas of collaboration between SMVDU and academic institutions in Sri Lanka.
The discussions emphasized shared cultural heritage and historical ties between India and Sri Lanka, paving the way for future partnerships. The interaction was also attended by Prof Yugal Khajuria, Dean Alumni and International Affairs; Prof Balbir Singh (Dean Academic Affairs, SMVDU), Dr Yathesth Anand, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering; Abhinay Gupta, Head, School of Architecture and Landscape Design; Dr Sanjay Mohan, CEO, TBIC SMVDU; and Dr Mir Irfan Ul Haq, Associate Dean Alumni and International Affairs.
Key discussions also revolved around fostering collaborations in the form of student visits, faculty exchange programs, and joint academic initiatives with universities in Sri Lanka.
