NEW DELHI, Jan 19: Spy stories continue to attract readers, especially when written by those with real-life experience.
This was evident at the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026, where a well-attended discussion on the book “Mukhbir” by Brigadier Sushil Tanwar was held at the Theme Pavilion in Bharat Mandapam.
The book was featured under the fair’s central theme, Indian Military History: Valour and Wisdom @75, during the event held from January 10 to January 18.
The panel discussion was moderated by Swati Sharma, who led an engaging conversation on the book and the ideas that inspired its stories.
Mukhbir is a collection of 17 short stories focusing on intelligence operations and the everyday lives of people in Jammu and Kashmir. Through simple yet powerful narratives, the book highlights the sacrifices of unsung heroes and the sensitive relationship between local residents and security forces.
The audience responded warmly, listening with keen interest to anecdotes shared during the session.
The event also marked the release of Brigadier Tanwar’s second book, Aman Ke Farishtey, during the World Book Fair.
Set in the Poonch district, the novel follows the journey of a young military intelligence officer and portrays his close bond with the local population.
On the occasion, Brigadier Tanwar paid tribute to the people of Murrah village in Surankote and dedicated the book to the memory of Abdul Hamid, a local youth who lost his life at a young age in an encounter with terrorists.
Both Mukhbir and Aman Ke Farishtey have been published by Delhi-based publisher Rajpal and Sons.
