JAMMU, Sept 15: Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings Choudhary Lal Singh today said that physical fitness is of utmost importance for everyone adding the participation of young and old in games and sports invariably ensures good health, fitness and generally freedom from ailments of various types.
Addressing a large gathering of sports lovers after inaugurating the 5-day 39th BSF Inter Frontier Hockey Championship-2015 at Frontier Headquarters BSF at Paloura, here this evening, the Minister said that sports activities help to channelize the energy of the youth in positive direction, adding that in this behalf Government is committed to promote sports activities and develop sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of the State.
About 12 teams from Jammu, Kashmir, Gujarat, Guwahati, Megahalaya, North Bengal, Punjab, Rajashthan, South Bengal and Tripura are participating in the 5-day long championship. More than thousand players will compete in various sports events which will conclude on September 19.
The Minister said that by organizing such sports events the immense sports talent in youth of the state would further be honed to enable them to participate in national and international sports events. He said the visiting players would feel real spirit of state’s culture of brotherhood and would be our ambassadors for the country to present actual picture of the Jammu and Kashmir outside.
Choudhary Lal Singh advised the local youth to actively participate in sports, adding that such activities would keep them physically and mentally fit.
Earlier, a cultural programme was presented by the students of BSF School, Paloura.
Inspector General BSF Rakesh Sharma, DIG/TRG, FHQ BSF, New Delhi G K Sharma, DIG (Ops) Ftr Hq Brig V K Chand, DIG SHQ BSF R K Gurung, Comdt (Sports) FHQ BSF Dinesh Pal Singh, DIG SHQ BSF B S Kasana besides other senior officers of BSF were present on the occasion.
