SPO killed; two army men, civilian injured in Pattan

Srinagar :  A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed and two army men and a civilian were injured in a fierce gun battle between security forces and militants in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.

An official said that on specific information about the presence of two militants, the joint team of army’s 29 RR and SOG Pattan cordoned off Hardushoora Sultanpora village in district Baramulla.

Militants who were hiding in a house opened heavy fire on the search party of the security forces. The forces retaliated leading to an encounter. A special police officer was killed and two army men and a civilian Manzoor Ahmad were injured.

Two militants are believed to be trapped in a house.

An army spokesman said here that a joint operation was launched by RR Batallion of Army and SOG at Hardushoora of Baramulla. “Based on specific intelligence inputs at 7.30 AM today, the joint team established the contact at 7.50 AM”, he said, adding that the operation is in progress.
