REASI, July 20: In a tragic accident, a rashly driven speeding car knocked to death a pedestrian in Laiter area of Bhambla, last evening.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Altaf (50), a resident of Potha village in Rajouri district, who died on the spot.
According to reports, a rashly driven Swift car (registration number JK11G 8035) was heading towards Bhambla when it hit Altaf from behind when he was standing near a shop with a child, waiting for transport to return home after visiting a local faith healer for treatment.
CCTV footage shows Altaf waiting near a roadside drain with the child, who had just crossed over to the other side, narrowly escaping the collision.
Eyewitnesses stated that the impact was so intense that the car dragged the victim. Locals immediately informed the police and rushed Altaf to the nearby hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead.
The police have taken the car driver and his associate into custody and registered a case in this connection.
