Special Lok Adalat resolves over 24000 traffic challans, 3300 electricity disputes across J&K

JAMMU, Feb 22: A Special Lok Adalat today settled over 24000 traffic challans and 3300 electricity disputes in different districts of the Union Territory.
A statement said that the event was held under the patronage of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, who also happens to be the Patron-in-Chief of the J&K Legal Services Authority, and Justice Atul Sreedharan, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority as well as the guidance of Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee.
Quoting the data received from various District Legal Services Authorities in the UT of J&K, it said, a total of 28881 traffic challans and 4520 electricity disputes were taken up in the Special Lok Adalat, out of which 27402 traffic challans and 3311 disputes relating to electricity were amicably settled, involving a total amount of Rs 10,94,82,272, providing significant relief to the litigants.
District Jammu and District Srinagar emerged as the leaders in settling 13166 and 9662 cases respectively which constitutes about 83% of the total cases disposed of in the today’s Special Lok Adalat.
Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, while appreciating the efforts of officers and officials of DLSA Jammu and Srinagar informed the media persons that this was the Second Special Lok Adalat of the current calendar year.
He urged the Advocates in general and the litigants in particular to take maximum benefit of such Special Lok Adalats which are being organized by the J&K Legal Services Authority.
The statement said in Jammu District, the event took placed under the leadership of YP Bourney, Principal District & Sessions Judge Jammu, with the guidance of Smriti Sharma, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Jammu.
The Lok Adalat there (Jammu) was held across six benches comprising of various judges and panel lawyers, handling different types of cases.
The first bench, led by Raj Kumar, Special Mobile Magistrate for Traffic, focused on e-challans, while the second bench, headed by Arti Devi, Electricity Magistrate, dealt with electricity bill cases.
The remaining benches were assigned to resolve physical traffic challans in different regions, including Jammu, Akhnoor, RS Pura, and Bishnah.
A total of 13,168 cases were taken up, with 13,166 cases successfully settled, recovering an impressive amount of Rs 51, 06, 300.
In a similar effort, a Special Lok Adalat was also held in Rajouri under the chairmanship of Rajeev Gupta, Principal District & Sessions Judge of Rajouri.
There, two benches were set up to address cases related to traffic challans, electricity bills, and MACT (Motor Accident Claims Tribunal) cases.
The first bench was headed by Rajeev Gupta and Bashir Ahmad Munshi, while the second bench was led by Javed Rana and Shavika Gupta.
At the Tehsil level, additional benches were set up for localized proceedings.
A total of 781 cases were taken up, with 713 cases disposed of, amounting to Rs 67, 06, 804 in settlements.
Additionally, 15 MACT cases were resolved, resulting in a compensation of Rs 54, 05, 000.
The event saw significant participation from the PDD Department, advocates from various insurance companies, bar members, and a large number of litigants, contributing to the overall success of the Lok Adalat in both districts.
