Speaker for creating mass awareness about welfare programme

JAMMU, Feb 20: Speaker, Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today stressed that the need of the hour is to generate awareness about importance of girl child in the society and addressing the issue of gender imbalance and discrimination against them.
Mr Gupta was speaking during an awareness camp organized by Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) mission of Social Welfare Department at Sanjay Nagar under the mission “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”.
He said generating mass awareness about the various programmes launched by the Centre and State Government for the welfare of girl child is important so that they can avail maximum benefit of these schemes.
On the occasion, the   concerned officers highlighted various schemes including Indira Gandhi Martitev Sehyog Yojna, (IGMSY), Rajeev Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (SABLA), State Marriage Assistance Scheme For Orphan Girls, Sukanay Samriddhi Account Yojna, Pre and Post Matric Scholarships and stressed upon people to avail maximum benefits of  these schemes .
The Speaker also felicitated the girls who excelled in academics and asked them to put in dedicated efforts to achieve success in every field. On the occasion, a skit was also presented by the Anganwadi Workers to highlight the message of save girl child which was highly appreciated by the dignitaries and audience.
Meanwhile, Speaker inaugurated various developmental works in Ward No. 45 , Digiana completed at a cost of about Rs 13 lakh by the Jammu Municipal Corporation .
During his visit he also interacted with the people of the area and took stock of their problems and demands. People  apprised the Speaker about their demands pertaining  to  repair and upgradation of lanes and drains, construction of marriage hall in the area, problems of water logging during  rainy season, proper ration supply etc. The Speaker assured them that all their genuine demands will be  met in phased manner and  directed the concerned departments to ensure that developmental works are completed in set timelines.
Later, the Speaker  kick started the construction works of main nullah phase-I Chatha Form to University and informed that the work of 2nd phase would be taken up soon. He assured that the  upgradation works of  main roads of the area would also be started  immediately.
Among others, Block Development Officer, Gadi Garh, Sarpanch, Panchs, Gram Sevaks and a large number of locals were present of the occasion.
