SP South reviews security with VDGs at Phallian Mandal

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 6: Ajay Sharma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Jammu South, today reviewed the security preparedness of Village Defence Guards (VDGs) during a meeting at Phallian Mandal. A press statement said the meeting focused on strengthening the security grid, improving coordination and enhancing vigilance in border and vulnerable areas along the International Border, which have witnessed drone and drug-dropping incidents in the past. It said the meeting stressed the vital role of VDGs as the first line of defence, with emphasis on area familiarisation, operational readiness and intelligence sharing. The SP Jammu South, along with SDPO South, SHO Satwari, ICPP Phallian Mandal and beat officers, interacted with paid and voluntary VDGs, heard their issues and assured timely redressal while appreciating their dedication and discipline. The VDGs were directed to remain alert to suspicious movements, drone activity and infiltration attempts and to immediately inform police and security agencies. To strengthen night domination, it was decided that VDGs will conduct patrols in small groups from sunset to sunrise, with each group including a police post member, and all details will be shared with the Army and BSF to avoid confusion. Weapons issued to VDGs were also checked for serviceability, and instructions were issued on safe handling and maintenance. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Jammu Police's commitment to work closely with VDGs to maintain peace and security in South Jammu.
