SEOUL, Sep 30: South Korea will launch its homegrown Nuri space rocket for the fourth time on November 27, the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) said today.
“On September 26, the Korea AeroSpace Administration established a committee for the fourth launch of the Nuri rocket and is currently preparing for the blastoff, which is scheduled to take place on November 27 between 00:54 and 01:14. The exact time will be confirmed the day before the launch,” KASA said in a statement.
The committee will deal with the final assembly of the rocket, control of conditions and preparation of the launch site at the Naro spaceport. A new date may be set around November 28 and December 4 in the event of adverse weather conditions or launch problems, KASA said.
KASA is planning to load into the rocket the South Korean satellite CAS500-1, which will monitor the aurora borealis, the glow of the atmosphere and the magnetic field as well as measure the Earth’s plasmosphere – an area of near-Earth space filled with cold plasma.
KASA chief Yoon Young-bin said that this would be the first Nuri rocket launch since the establishment of South Korea’s space agency in May 2024. The Nuri spacecraft was last launched in May 2023. (UNI)
