Sopore, Anantnag police crackdown on SIM misuse

SRINAGAR, Nov 7: In a sustained effort to curb the misuse of mobile SIM cards by terrorists, their associates and criminal networks, police in Sopore and Anantnag today launched coordinated verification drives and surprise raids across the two districts.
In Sopore, multiple police teams conducted simultaneous inspections at SIM vendor outlets to ensure strict compliance with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines. The drive focused on customer documentation, Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and vendor licensing. Vendors were counselled about their legal responsibilities and warned of stern action in case of negligence or violations.

Similarly, acting on credible intelligence inputs, Anantnag Police carried out surprise checks at various SIM vendor stores and telecom service provider offices, including BSNL and Airtel. Police teams scrutinized subscriber records, KYC documents and sales data to trace any irregularities. Several vendors have been questioned and strict legal action has been warned against any lapses detected.
The district police said the crackdown will continue to ensure that communication channels remain secure and free from misuse for unlawful activities.
Meanwhile, Pulwama Police carried out a comprehensive verification drive of SIM vendors across the district. The drive was aimed at curbing any possible misuse of SIM cards and ensuring that all vendors operate strictly within the framework of law.
During the verification, police teams visited multiple SIM sale outlets and franchise points across different areas of the district. The documents, registration details, and customer verification records maintained by the vendors were thoroughly scrutinized to ensure compliance with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and service provider guidelines.
