RAJOURI, June 11: Renewing commitment of a green and sustainable future, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University has commissioned  Stand Alone Solar Power Plant (SAPP), sanctioned by Government of India with 418 Solar Photovoltaic modules each having a capacity of 240 Wp for generating 100kWp power.
Under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof Irshad Ahmed Hamal, University had approached Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, for helping the varsity in making it “Green Campus” which was responded positively by the Ministry and a SAPP was sanctioned for the University whose foundation was laid down by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Expressing pleasure over commissioning of the plant, Vice Chancellor Prof Irshad Ahmed Hamal said that solar energy generation can minimize the gap between energy demand and energy supply and more usage of solar energy will enable to maintain the sea level and restrict the evolution of greenhouse gases.   He added that mission of BGSBU is inspiring students and other masses of the society to green world by reducing environmental footprints while enhancing personal health.
It is pertinent to mention here that as per the report by this Ministry 1, 00,000 trained engineers, Scientists, PhDs and technicians will be required by 2022. Model course contents to teach solar energy at B Tech, M Tech and ITI levels have to be prepared. In a steady move Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri has started B Tech Course in Electrical & Renewable Energy Engineering in the college of Engineering and technology at Rajouri. The programme is first of its kind in the entire State of Jammu & Kashmir.
In addition to this the Solar Power Plant is quiet helpful in imparting knowledge, and technical know how of the various aspects of the working and generation of Photovoltaic Techniques. Also the students studying here can utilize the benefits of this plant for doing their minor and major projects as well.
