JAMMU Mar 25: Senior National Conference leaders today highlighted the societal role in reaching out to poor to mitigate their sufferings, which have accumulated in the recent months due to the situation created by pandemic, saying collective efforts are needed for their upliftment.
“Many people, especially the skilled and unskilled workforce have lost jobs due economic slowdown post lockdown and they need all the support to grapple with the situation”, additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal and State secretary Rattan Lal Gupta said at a function organised by Provincial vice president, Vijay Laxmi Dutta at party office here this afternoon.
The occasion was marked by distribution of blankets among the poor provided by Dutta.
Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal said that history stands testimony to the crucial role played by National Conference in facing the challenges faced to the people during most testing times. Being a party of the masses it has all along struggled for empowerment of the poor and marginalized segments of the society, he added.
Dr Kamaal lauded the philanthropic effort of Dutta and hoped that this will inspire others to reach out to the needy.
Rattan Lal Gupta, while addressing the gathering, said National Conference has a track record of public service and it is committed to the welfare of weaker sections of the society.
Gupta said service to humanity is service to God and this philosophy has all along guided the discourse of the National Conference.
Vijay Laxmi Dutta called upon the cadre to rededicate themselves to the cherished philosophy of National Conference in strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and tranquility. This assumes added significance at a time when divisive forces were attempting to create wedge among the people on the basis of religion and region.
Provincial Secretary Sheikh Bashir Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Abdul Gani Teli, Imtiaz Ahmed and Reeta Gupta.
