Snowfall in hills, rains lash Valley

SRINAGAR, Apr 5: The upper reaches of Kashmir received snow while intermittent rains lashed the Valley today leading to a drop in temperatures across the region.
Snowfall was reported in higher reaches, while most plains received rainfall, contributing to the overall fall in temperatures.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 18.6°C, down from the previous day, while the minimum settled at 6.7°C.
Other places in the Kashmir Valley also witnessed lower temperatures, with Pahalgam recording a maximum of 15.7°C and Gulmarg at 7.8°C. Kupwara and Qazigund also reported a dip in day temperatures.

The department said light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several parts, with Kukernag receiving 14.6 mm and Banihal 8.5 mm of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
The Weatherman forecast mostly dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days, with chances of brief showers in higher reaches during afternoon and evening hours.
He said that weather conditions on April 5 and 6 are likely to remain largely dry, although isolated areas, particularly in higher altitudes, may receive light showers.
He said that a fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the region from April 7, bringing rainfall to parts of J&K.
The official said the system is likely to impact the Jammu region first by late morning or afternoon on April 7, with gradual spread to parts of Kashmir by evening or night.
He said the intensity of the weather system is expected to be higher over Jammu, where moderate to heavy rainfall is likely, while the impact over Kashmir is expected to be comparatively less.
“Areas along the Pir Panjal range, especially on the Jammu side, may receive relatively intense showers,” he added.
Weather conditions are expected to improve from April 9, with mostly dry conditions likely to prevail again, although isolated showers in higher reaches cannot be ruled out.
