Snowfall Aftermath: Sajad reviews restoration measures, development scenario in Kupwara

KUPWARA: Minister for Social Welfare, Science & Technology, Sajad Gani Lone, who is on 3-day visit to Kupwara district, today chaired a meeting to review status of ongoing developmental works and to take stock of restoration measures post heavy snowfall in the district.

District Development Commissioner Kupwara, G M Dar, briefed the Minister about progress of various ongoing developmental works, besides status of snow clearance measures, restoration of essential supplies and services in the district.

While reviewing the progress made on developmental front, Lone was informed that Rs 72 crore from district plan stands utilized till January 2017. It was said that under Centrally Sponsored Schemes 73 percent and NRLM 84 percent target has been achieved, while as under MGNREGA 84 percent funds were utilized.

Regarding restoration measures undertaken by the district administration after heavy snowfall, the Minister was informed that 99 percent of electricity and water supply has been restored in the district.

Later, he convened an Awami Darbar at TRC Handwara, during which several deputations and individuals put forth their issues and demands before him.  The Minister gave a patient hearing to public deputations and assured them that their genuine demands would be redressed at the earliest. He also gave on spot direction to the concerned for time bound redressal of public grievances.

Lone said that he will always strive for the development of the district as well as the State and will take up the demands like establishment of Maternity cum Childcare Hospital, Bio-Technology Park, Trauma Hospital, installation of street lights at Handwara chowk, besides construction of Mini Hydel project and railway project in the district with concerned quarters on priority.

He added that Rs 40 crore Maternity cum Childcare Hospital and Rs 55 crore Bio-technology park projects are already under consideration of the Government and directed the district administration to identify the land for the same. He said to improve power scenario in the district 50 MW solar power would be generated by Science and Technology Department, besides 30 thousand solar home lights and 2 thousand biomass cook stoves would also be provided to the people in the district.
