Jammu, Apr 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Nowabad area have solved a purse snatching case within ten days by arresting two accused and recovering gold and silver items worth Rs 6 lakh.
Giving details, a senior police officer said, “The incident was reported on April 6 when a man from Tali Morh, New Plot, informed that his wife was waiting for a bus in the Jewel area. Two unidentified youths approached her from behind and fled after snatching her purse.”
He said police teams were immediately constituted to trace the culprits using both technical and human intelligence. “After developing leads, a raid was conducted at a suspected location and two suspects were detained. During sustained questioning, they confessed to the crime,” he added.
The accused were identified as Farhan Ahmed Naik (19) of Gujjar Nagar, Jammu, and Samiullah Butt alias Abbu (18) of Doda, presently residing at Khatikan Talab, the officer said.
“On their disclosure, we recovered all the stolen items including one gold set, one gents gold chain, two ladies chains, five ladies rings, one gents ring, one pair of ear tops, one silver bracelet, a mobile phone, and the ladies purse. We also seized the black Pulsar motorcycle used in the offence,” he stated.
The officer further informed that a case under FIR No. 46/2025 under sections 307 and 3(5) of BNS was registered at Police Station Nowabad.
The operation was carried out by Inspector Deepak Pathania (SHO Nowabad), PSI Irshad Ahmed, HC Jaipal Singh, HC Faqar Din, and Sgct Anil Kumar under the supervision of DySP Farha Nishat and SP City North Vivek Shekhar.
