SMVDU Scholars bag prizes in scientific conference

JAMMU, Oct 28: Three scholars from SMVDU brought laurels to the University by bagging Gold, silver and third prize in poster presentation in 1st Crab-e-Con on Breast Cancer update, held recently at Jammu.
The Crab-e-Con conference on breast cancer was held jointly by North Zone Association of Radiation Oncologists of India, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Radiations of Hope (a cancer care initiative by Dr Deepak Abrol) and Maharishi Dayanand Hospital & Medical Research Centre. Oncologists from Northern India including UP & Bihar were involved in conceptualizing the idea of the conference, which discussed breast cancer threadbare, including research and treatment from normal to high end technical advances. In total, thirteen posters were presented relating to the advances in the Breast Cancer research. The JBM golden shield was bagged by Ghulam Rasool Bhat, Research Scholar, from School of Biotechnology SMVDU who presented his poster showing the Genetic link between Lung and Breast Cancer. The title of his poster was “Genetics of Signaling that mediate the metastasis from breast to lung (CXCR4) signaling”. He is being mentored by Dr Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, Katra and Dr Deepak Abrol from GMC Jammu.
Vidushi Abrol, Research Scholar, who was mentored by Dr Sharda Pottukuchi from SMVDU and Dr Sundeep Jaglan from IIIM, Jammu, won JBM Silver shield for her poster on “Breast Cancer Treatments : Hormonal therapy and Alternative Medicines”. Third prize was won by Ruchi Shah, Research Scholar, working under the mentorship of Dr Swarkar Sharma. She presented her poster on relationship between Mechanistic similarities between Gastric and Breast cancer and title of her presentation was “BRCA2 gene mutations: Common link in Breast and stomach cancer”.
