SMVDIME, SMVDNSH conduct free cataract surgeries

KATRA, July 25: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) in collaboration with its associated hospital Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH) performed five free cataract surgeries under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) for patients of Marh Block, Jammu.
The patients were identified during a free multi-specialty health camp held on July 19 in partnership with Mission Shakti – District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW Jammu), Social Welfare Department and J&K Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM).
The surgeries were performed by a skilled ophthalmic team led by Dr. Malvika Sharma, Assistant Professor at SMVDIME & SMVDNSH.
Free transportation, nutritious meals and stay for both patients and attendants, to post-operative medicines and spectacles-every aspect of patient care was provided at zero cost.
“We are committed to reach the unreached. These surgeries are a reflection of our mission to make advanced medical care accessible regardless of income or geography,” said Dr. Yashpal, Executive Director, SMVDIME.
“This is not just about restoring vision-it’s about restoring dignity, mobility and hope,” added Dr. M.M Mathavan, Facility Director, SMVDNSH.
The surgeries were carried out under the guidance of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
