JAMMU, Sept 21: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specialty Hospital (SMVDNSH), established by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) in partnership with Narayana Health, has successfully performed a complex Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) assisted angioplasty, marking yet another milestone in its efforts to deliver world-class healthcare to Jammu & Kashmir.
The hospital, a flagship project of the Shrine Board in the foothills of Trikuta Hills, represents SMVDSB’s long-standing commitment to social welfare. With modern infrastructure, advanced technology, and highly skilled doctors, SMVDNSH caters not only to local residents but also to the millions of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine.
In the latest achievement, a young male patient referred from a tertiary hospital with severe chest pain was found to have blockages in two major arteries. Conventional angioplasty attempted earlier had failed due to heavy calcification. Seeking a second opinion at SMVDNSH, his case was reviewed, and IVL-assisted angioplasty was recommended.
IVL is a cutting-edge technique that uses sonic pressure waves through a special balloon catheter to break hardened calcium in arteries, enabling safe stent placement. The procedure was successfully performed, and the patient is recovering well under follow-up care. This marks the fourth such advanced procedure carried out at SMVDNSH within a year, all with excellent outcomes.
Dr Sushant Kumar, Senior Consultant, Cardiology, who led the procedure, stated, “This was a very challenging case due to the heavy calcification in the patient’s arteries. With IVL technology, we could safely prepare the vessels and implant stents with success.”
Facility Director, SMVDNSH, Dr M M Mathavan, remarked, “Our hospital is committed to bringing modern cardiology solutions to the region. This success reflects our mission to ensure patients in J&K can access advanced treatments locally.”
Dr Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDSB, said, “The Shrine Board has always strived to serve society through healthcare and education. The success of IVL angioplasty shows our vision of a world-class hospital is being fulfilled.”
