UDHAMPUR, Mar 30: While foiling smuggling attempts, the police seized 28 bovine animals in Tikri and Chenani areas of district Udhampur today.
Police said a police party from Udhampur foiled a bovine smuggling attempt and rescued 20 bovines during naka under the jurisdiction of Police Post Tikri.
Police party from Tikri apprehended one person moving on foot from Jammu side towards Udhampur- Srinagar side along with a group of bovines. The person was stopped and questioned by the police party.
On inquiry, he disclosed his identity as Ghulam Nabi, son of Mandu of Gujjar Nallah, Sandhi, Jammu. During verification, it was found that he was carrying 20 bovines without any valid permission.
All the bovines were rescued on the spot and taken into safe custody.
In this regard, Case FIR No. 65/2026 U/S 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Rehambal and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a police party from Chenani during Naka signalled a tanker bearing registration No. JK02BT-3197 to stop for checking. The driver of the vehicle disclosed his identity as Shauyab Ali, son of Srafat Ali of Salman Farsi Masjid, Azad Colony, Saharanpur (UP).
Upon checking, the vehicle was found loaded with 08 bovine animals which were tied with ropes in a cruel manner and were being transported without any valid permission.
All the bovines were rescued. In this regard, case FIR No. 51/2026 U/S 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Chenani.
