Srinagar, May 9: The residents of Suthra Shahi in the Karan Nagar area of Srinagar today alleged that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was not acting against the violators of the court orders in the area.
In a written appeal written to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary and Commissioner Secretary Housing, the residents have sought immediate action by the concerned in this regard.
The residents said that on April 2, 2022, the Chief Enforcement Officer and Ward Officer of SMC visited on spot to ascertain the violation of the court directions by an individual who is carrying out commercial activities in a residential house.
“Then the officers submitted their report stating violation vis-à-vis residential houses have been converted into commercial ones. Even one of the violators has furnished an undertaking to the extent that he will not convert the residential house into commercial,” the residents said.
They said that the said undertaking is part of the record in the SMC, while the concerned officers have submitted the report to the Chief Enforcement Officer of SMC seeking sealing of the same.
“The Chief Enforcement Officer of SMC stated that he on 17/4/2022 has forwarded the file for legal opinion to the standing council of the SMC for further course of action, but till date, no opinion has been received,” they said.
It is to be noted here, as per the residents, that three residential houses have been sealed so far thrice. “It is further submitted that due to violations that the entire area has become a commercial hub, such as there is no car parking, due to which people are facing difficulties.”
The residents of Shutra Shahi, new Secretariat Road Srinagar have appealed to the higher-ups to intervene and make alternative arrangements for them so that they are spared the hassles that they are facing.
