Slum dwellings in Jammu city

Sir,
Jammu-the winter capital of our State is situated on foothills of Siwalik hills and is known as “City of Temples”. The Government of J&K has a number of innovative plans on its roadmap to beautify Jammu city, the major ones include Mubarak Mandi Complex and picturesque lake to be developed on the bank of Tawi River to add beautification of Jammu city.  But on the other side of the coin, it is very disturbing to note that in last few years a huge number of slum dwellings or clusters of Jhuggi/Jhompad have come up in Jammu and its out skirts especially in good colonies. Surprisingly, these slum dwellings are growing quite fast and posing  a threat  to overall beauty of Jammu city. The areas lying vacant/vacant plots or pockets of Government land have been occupied by slum dwellers. As a result of this, Jammu is gradually losing its beauty. These temporary settlements or slum dwellings are gradually becoming a source of nuisance and environmental hazard for inhabitants of residential colonies. It will not be out of context to mention here that these slum dwellings at times pose security threat for inhabitants in residential colonies. These slum dwellers have been found involved in cases of theft in the surrounding areas. These people are living in unhygienic ways without sanitary facilities and such pose environmental degradation in these colonies.
It is high time for the concerned authorities to take a serious note of the menace of growing slum dwellings and its bearings on the people residing in colonies. It is worthwhile to mention that inhabitants staying in these colonies have hugely invested out of their life-long savings with dream to reside in these colonies in neat, clean pollution free environment. If necessary steps are taken in the right direction, it will certainly contribute in overcoming the problems as highlighted above and pave a path to save Jammu city from getting defaced or disfigured.
Your etc…
