JAMMU, May 24: SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) has demanded the erasure of Annual Performance Indicator/Index (API) for the appointment and promotion of teachers in the University system.
In a prèss statement, Dr Vikas Sharma, president of the Association, explained that API score has done more harm than good to the education system of the country and particularly to farm/professional university where teachers are forced to work for increasing the API score for their promotions rather than for the stakeholders (students and farmers).
“Erasure of API score as criteria is urgent so that the meaningful contributions of the teachers/ scientists to the society in general and stakeholders in particular are duly acknowledged and appropriately rewarded through appointments and promotions rather than the prevailing system where teachers are evaluated based on a set pattern to suit a set of scientists who work for increasing the API than those who are contributing in the field under extreme hardships for the betterment of the student /farming community,” he added.
Dr Vivak M Arya, general secretary of the Association, stressed for issuance of formal order in this regard and for speedy implementation of the order by the organizations like UGC, CSIR and ICAR.
