JAMMU, Aug 21:  To register protest against alleged callous attitude of the university administration towards their genuine demands, the non teaching employees of SKUAST – Jammu held a peaceful demonstration at Main Campus Chatha, here today.
The protest was organized on the call of Non Teaching Employees Association of SKUAST-Jammu. There was an overwhelming response of the employees who assembled in hundreds at the main campus.
The protesting employees raised slogans against the university authorities and in support of their demands, like career advancement, transfer policy etc. It was decided that if the authorities do not consider the genuine demands of the employees, the strike shall continue from Monday, August 24 onwards.
While addressing the protesting employees, B N Singh, president of the association, said that the employees were left with no option other than to adopt agitational path as the university authorities failed to resolve their issues despite repeated submission of charter of demands for the last one year.
The registry has adopted an attitude of harassing the non teaching employees by twisting the rules and statutes as per their requirement, he alleged and accused the authorities of adopting pick and choose policy while implementing the various orders.
Zamirul-Haq, general secretary, said that long pending genuine demands of career advancement, transfer policy, etc were not addressed to by the authorities as such they were forced to take this step.
K D Singh, senior vice-president, said that the non teaching employees are feeling deceived over the false assurances of authorities and if the administration does not act in time, the situation can go out of hand.
Gursanjeevan Singh appealed the Chancellor and Pro Chancellor to intervene in the matter and redress the genuine demands of the employees besides acting against the blue eyed people sitting at the helm of affairs.
Others who spoke on the occasion, included Rattan Lal,  Bimal Singh,  Deepak Kumar, Gursanjeevan Singh,  Vijay Singh and Manzoor Ahmed Khan.
