SKUAST-J celebrates 20th Foundation Day

JAMMU, Sept 20: Commemorating the historical bifurcation of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) from SKUAST-Kashmir leading to its foundation in the year 1999, SKUAST-J today organized its ’20th Foundation Day’ in the Baba Jitto Auditorium at Main Campus, Chatha, Jammu.
Professor Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the University, was the chief guest while all the statutory officers of the university, Heads of Divisions, faculty members, retired employees of the university, non-teaching staff and students of university also graced the occasion. MLC Surinder Choudhary and Iftikhar Chauhan, Director, Accounts and Treasuries, were also present during the programme.
The event started with the echo of university song resonating in the auditorium hall of the university followed by lighting of lamp by the chief guest.
In his welcome address, Director Education, Dr T A S Ganai, said that it is a moment of pride for SKUAT-J that our University is placed above our parent University at national level.
Director Research, Dr J P Sharma presented the historical perspective of the bifurcation of the university in the year 1999.
MLC Surinder Choudhary highlighted the need for publishing a book on struggle in making of SKUAST-Jammu. He lauded the efforts of both teaching and non teaching associations for the welfare of University.
Presenting the “Foundation Day Lecture”, Prof Pradeep K Sharma, exhorted upon the faculty, students and the scholars to strive hard to make SKUAST-Jammu a leading University to encourage developmental activities, academic excellence and innovations so that outcome of research can be transferred from lab to land for the benefit of the farming community of the province.
The University also honored its teaching faculty members by presenting awards and certificates under different categories. The awards were distributed by the Vice Chancellor. Besides, the Joint Action Committee SKUAST-Jammu honoured MLC Surinder Choudhary, P D K Uppal and Iftikhar Chauhan.
The students of the university presented a colourful cultural programme in which all the statutory officers, heads of divisions, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students were present.
