SKIMS prohibits use, possession of liquor in hostels

SRINAGAR, Feb 18: The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has prohibited the use and possession of alcohol in hostels and imposed a complete ban on smoking and the use of tobacco products.
The SKIMS Hostel Administration has issued a series of guidelines on the code of conduct, discipline, maintenance practices, and safety protocols applicable to all hostel residents, guests, and visitors.
“Ragging, in any form, is strictly prohibited and punishable under the law, smoking and the use of tobacco products are banned, and the possession, use, or distribution of alcohol, recreational substances, or illicit drugs is forbidden,” the directives state.
Further, as per the directives issued by the Chief Warden of the Hostel Administration, violence, harassment, or any actions causing physical or mental harm are strictly prohibited.
“Unauthorized entry of individuals, subletting of hostel rooms, or misuse of facilities is not allowed.”
The directives state that these measures are intended to ensure a harmonious, disciplined, and secure living environment conducive to academic pursuits and community well-being.
The inmates have also been directed to report incidents of misconduct, security threats, or emergencies immediately to the Hostel Section or security personnel.
“Use electronic devices responsibly at low volumes or with earphones. Obtain prior approval from the Hostel Administration for celebrations or gatherings within hostel premises and refrain from acts of vandalism or destruction of hostel property; strictly avoid involvement in unlawful acts, substance abuse, or disruptive behavior,” say the directives.
Regarding safety measures, the residents have been directed to carry their institutional identity card at all times and present it upon request, while guests and visitors must be accompanied by a hosteller and provide valid identification upon entry.
“Delivery personnel must be met at the hostel entrance, and postal or courier deliveries should be collected during office hours.”
In case of non-compliance with the guidelines, the authorities state that violations can result in warnings or fines, eviction from the hostel premises, and reporting to institutional authorities or law enforcement, if necessary.
