Srinagar, Nov 18: A daylong Continued Medical Education (CME) program titled ‘Hypertension & Co-morbidities: An Update’ was organized by the Department of General Medicine, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, here today.

The program featured insights from renowned experts in cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology, and gynaecology, focusing on the latest guidelines, diagnostic techniques, and treatment strategies for hypertension and its management in co-morbid conditions.
Dr. Pravin Kalvit, Senior Consultant, Kalvit Hospital, Chhattisgarh, opened the event with a presentation on ‘Digitising Blood Pressure.’
The session, chaired by Prof. Khalid Mohiuddin and Prof. Ishrat Hussain Dar, highlighted advancements in hypertension diagnosis.
Prof. S.N. Narasingan, Vice President of the World Hypertension League, presented on ‘Resistant Hypertension: Challenges and Future Ahead,’ emphasizing combination therapy over mono-therapy, except for elderly and fragile patients.
His address sparked an engaging discussion among delegates and senior physicians from Kashmir.
Dr. Tajammul Hussain, HoD Nephrology at SSH Srinagar, stressed the need to adopt modern perspectives in hypertension treatment.
Other notable presentations included, Dr. Ashish Saxena, SPS Hospital Ludhiana, on ‘Hypertension Crisis: Defusing the Time Bomb’; Dr. Narsingh Verma, Hind Medical Institute, on ‘Hypertension Diagnosis and Monitoring’; Prof. Anuj Maheshwari, Indian Society of Hypertension, on ‘Hypertension and Diabetes.’
Interactive sessions and case discussions followed, with delegates actively engaging in exploring new findings and treatment approaches.
Post-lunch, Prof. Muzafar Maqsood, Deptt of Nephrology, SKIMS Soura, addressed ‘Hypertension in CKD: Myths and Reality,’ while Prof. Ravouf Asmi, HoD Neurology, presented on ‘Hypertension in Stroke: What Lies Behind the Scene.’
The program concluded with Dr. Divya Saxena, Director, Saxena Hospital Sonipat, presenting on ‘Hypertension in Pregnancy: The Shifting Paradigm.’
