SRINAGAR, Mar 14: Director Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and EOSG, Prof. M.A Ganie, today launched a Vay Vandhana Card Generation Camp at the SKIMS OPD complex to facilitate senior citizens aged 70 years and above.
The initiative is part of a government-backed health insurance programme under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, under which elderly citizens are provided free treatment coverage with a top-up benefit of up to Rs 5 lakh annually, irrespective of their socioeconomic status.
Officials said the camp has been set up to enable eligible senior citizens visiting the hospital to generate their Vay Vandhana Cards on-site, allowing them to access the scheme’s medical benefits more conveniently.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ganie said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to strengthening healthcare security for the elderly and improving their access to medical services and social protection.
Senior citizens above the age of 70 attending the SKIMS OPD will be able to generate their cards at the facility, making enrollment under the scheme easier.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr. Farooq Jan and Administrative Incharge OPD Dr. Haroon were also present on the occasion along with other officials.
