SRINAGAR, Apr 6: The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura has flagged poor usage of key medical education databases and urged faculty and students to increase their engagement to avoid disruption of access.
In a communication issued by the SKIMS Library, the institute said that “poor utilization” of the Access Medicine and MedOne Education databases has been observed, based on inputs from the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The notice stated that SKIMS currently receives free access to these databases as part of its membership with the National Medical Library, New Delhi.
However, it warned that continuation of this membership depends on monthly usage reports that are reviewed regularly.
“Continuation of this membership is entirely dependent on the monthly usage reports,” the communication said, stressing the need for consistent and effective use of the resources.
The institute has advised faculty members, resident doctors, research scholars and students to make regular use of the available e-resources, including e-book databases under the ERMED Consortium.
It noted that improved utilization is essential to ensure uninterrupted access in the future.
The library also outlined multiple access options for users, including institutional IP ranges, campus LAN/Wi-Fi, and remote access through the MyLOFT mobile application, along with direct online access.
