SKIMS deputes faculty to strengthen new GMCs

‘Move part of starting tertiary care services’

Srinagar, Aug 22: To expand specialized healthcare access and ease referral pressure, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has deputed senior faculty to run advanced medical services in seven new Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across J&K.
In a communication issued in this regard, SKIMS stated that faculty from different departments will operationalize high-end services in the newly established GMCs to ensure equitable access to specialized care and reduce the referral burden currently handled by SKIMS Soura.
The move, as per officials, is a part of the initiation of tertiary care services at the new GMCs.
Experts have been nominated across critical service networks, including intensive care, emergency and trauma, cardiac sciences, neurosciences, oncology, nephrology, radiology, and laboratory services.
Their tasks include staff training, liaising with GMCs, monitoring service progress, conducting inspections, and submitting reports for review and planning.
Deputations will be rotational and managed by the establishment section, the communication stated.
The GMCs covered under this initiative include Handwara, Baramulla, Doda, Rajouri, Anantnag, Kathua and Udhampur.
Under the Intensive Care Network, SKIMS has deputed Prof. Shovkat A. Gurcoo, HoD Anesthesiology, Dr. Mohd Akber Shah, Addl. Prof. and I/C Head Critical Care, Dr. Abdul Waheed Mir, Addl. Prof. Critical Care, and Dr. Tabasum Shebnum, Assistant Prof. Anesthesiology.
In the Cardiothoracic/Cardiac Sciences Network, the deputed faculty include Prof. Hilal Ahmad Rather, HoD Cardiology, Dr. Imran Hafeez, Addl. Prof. Cardiology, and Dr. Zubair Ashraf Hakeem, Assoc. Prof. and I/C Head CVTS.
For the Neurosciences Network, specialists deputed are Prof. Rouf Parvez Asimi, HoD Neurology, Prof. Chibber Sarabjit Singh, HOD Neurosurgery, Prof. Mohd Maqbool Wani, Neurology, and Prof. Nayil Khurshid, Neurosurgery.
In the Emergency & Trauma/Burns Network, those deputed for capacity building and monitoring include Prof. Abrar Ahad Wani, I/C Head Emergency Medicine, Prof. Altaf Rasool, Prof. Plastic Surgery – Burn Unit, Prof. Zargar Haroon Rashid, Plastic Surgery, Dr. Umar Hafiz Khan, Addl. Prof. and I/C Head Geriatric Medicine, Dr. Suhail Mantoo, Assoc. Prof. General Medicine, and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Wagay, Assistant Prof. General Surgery.
In the Oncology Services Network, the deputed faculty include Prof. Javid Rasool Bhat, HoD Clinical Hematology and I/C Head Medical Oncology, Dr. Malik Tariq Rasool Shah, Addl. Prof. and I/C Head Radiation Oncology, Prof. Sajad Ahmad Geelani, Clinical Hematology, Dr. Ab. Wahid Mir, Addl. Prof. and I/C Head Surgical Oncology, Dr. Shaqul Qamar, Addl. Prof. Palliative Care, and Dr. Syed Nisar, Assoc. Prof. Medical Oncology.
For the Nephrology & Dialysis Services Network, SKIMS has deputed Prof. Muzaffar Maqsood, HoD Nephrology, and Prof. Imtiaz A. Wani, Department of Nephrology.
In the Radiology & Laboratory Services Network, the deputed faculty are Prof. Syed Mudaser, HoD Clinical Biochemistry, Prof. Bashir A.
