PURI, Oct 2 : Sri Jagannath temple administration (SJTA) has initiated action against three Supakaras (temple cooks) for violating the temple direction and breaking the age-old tradition.

A press release from the  temple administration said three Supakaras were  prohibited to enter the temple premises and the kitchen and were  served show cause notices.

Devotees were shocked to learn that iron utensils were used by the Supakaras in the temple kitchen to cook Mahaprasad, breaking the tradition.

Sri Jagannath temple chief administrator Arabind Padhi had directed a team comprising temple officials and senior servitors traditionally having access to the temple kitchen to inspect the kitchen, siege the utensils and stop the use of the iron utensils

The team reported that a number of Supakaras are violating the directives and using the iron utensils.
